August Favorites

Watercolor Favorites Anna Kay Artworks Aug 2018

It's the last week of August and I am SO excited because it might as well be the first unofficial week of fall. Today the PSL hits Starbucks and this weekend we'll be sending summer out in style with Labor Day festivities. But, in reality, we've got highs near or in the 90s all this week and next, so lots of my fall loves will have to keep hanging around the closet (oh chunky sweaters and blanket scarves how I miss you...). Without further ado, here are some things I've been loving this month!

Apples || Okay, if you know me or have been around here for a sec you know that I L-O-V-E apples. They're my very favorite. However, I've been trying to eat produce that's in-season throughout the summer (my rule of thumb: if you can buy it at the farmer's market, it's in-season), so I'd significantly lightened up my apple consumption. (I didn't give them up entirely - let's not get crazy.) But apparently the North Georgia orchards have had cool and wet weather all summer and now they have an abundance of early apples! We've purchased Ginger Golds and Jonathans from the Mercier Orchards booth so far and I can't wait to see what the rest of the season brings. Oh, and I made apple bread. Because if apples are in-season, so is baking with them.

E-reader || I did a post about my Kindle Paperwhite recently, but I've used it more in the past month that I ever have (and it was the first gift Hal got me while we were dating). There are two responsible parties: the Libby app and Amazon's monthly free Kindle selections. I've also been trying to read instead of scrolling aimlessly through social and refreshing it a zillion times. I truly adore reading and it's made me feel so much better about what I accomplish in a day. If you're interested in keeping up with my reading adventures, follow me on Goodreads.

Kristin Ess Sea Salt Air Dry Spray || I picked this up on a recommendation from a fashion blogger and WHOA. It has changed this curly girl's life. The bottle actually says not to use on curly hair because it might dry it out, but my particular curls don't usually have a dryness problem. This spray makes these crazy curls more defined and less frizzy than any other product I've tried (and that's a big number). Other major bonuses? It comes from Target and is totally affordable! All the praise-hands emojis for this stuff!

Bourbon Chocolate Chip Cookies || I made these for Hal and his friends (because bourbon) and ended up eating so many of them. The bourbon gives the cookies such a yummy caramel flavor. My only complaint was that they baked totally flat - I'm thinking of subbing out the butter for shortening next time to see if that helps. (If you have any other tips let me know in the comments!)

White Jeans || Labor Day signifies the end of summer to me. While I totally rock white jeans after Labor Day, I've found myself reaching for them over and over again to pair with summery tanks or transitional sweater tees. Can't wait to wear them with warm caramels and winter whites. Mine are from Everlane!

Essie polish in "Mamba" || During the spring wedding season I found myself in need of a good neutral polish. I'm very pale with mostly pink undertones and this polish is the first opaque nude that actually looks similar to my skin! If you're in the market for a pinkish neutral for the upcoming wedding season (or just for fun!), give this one a go. (Side note: it's described as "shimmering" and that made me double-check that it was the right one - I had no idea it was anything other than glossy! So don't let that turn you away. Also, it was hard to find online but my local CVS stocks it so you may have better luck in stores!)

Phew that was a doozy! I'd love to hear what your favorite things have been this month and if any of ours overlap! Happy Tuesday!
